Ruby E. Schobert

Ruby was born October 1, 1916 on her parents farm, George Emil (Ed) and Alma Margaret (Nielsen) Mundt, near Springfield. She was baptized May 20, 1920 and confirmed March 29, 1931 into the Evangelical Freidens Lutheran Church, later known as Trinity Lutheran Church in Papillion.

She attended grade school and high school in Springfield. On October 5, 1938, she married Howard Orin Schobert of Papillion in a small ceremony at her parents home in Springfield. They lived on the original John Schobert farm 3 1/2 miles west of Papillion.

Ruby was active in her church and community. At Trinity Lutheran Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacherr while her children were youngsters. She was also an active member in the Ladies Aid Society and served as principle organist from 1936 until 1961 when the Schobert family moved to West Point.

Ruby also served her Papillion community as a charter member on the Prairie Queen Extension Club, she and her husband Howard were charter members of the Papillion Grange No 401. After the family moved to West Point in 1961, Ruby again took up the call of the church and community at Grace Lutheran Church. In West Point, she served as the Junior choir Director for several years, was a member of the alter Guild and served as Chairwoman of Grace Lutheran Women's Circle group. She was also a substitute organist and did volunteer work in the church office.

She was an active member in the West Point Chapter of the Federated Women's Club of America, serving as secretary for 15 years and as a District sewing Chairperson. She was also a 50 year member of the Rose Star Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star where she served terms as Worthy Matron and also as a district representative.

Following the death of Howard in 1981, she moved back to Papillion in 1989 to be closer to her children and extended family. . She again became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving as the Executive Treasurer of the Ladies Afternoon Circle and as a volunteer in the church office.

Ruby had a love of music which she shared with her husband, serving as his accompanist for many weddings and funerals at which he was asked to be a soloist. She enjoyed sewing (winning 1st place in a Statewide Women's Club sewing competition) and making most of her own cloths and those of her three daughters as they were growing up. She enjoyed doing many forms of needlework. Through her church organizations she knitted scores of booties for the West Point Hospital gift shop and crocheted winter caps for children for a school in Omaha. She also helped make over a hundred quilts for the Lutheran World Relief organization for children in under developed countries.

Preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers and three sisters, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Survived by 4 children, Judi Schow of Fremont NE, Kathleen Albers of Otoe NE, Joan Schobert of Aurora CO, and Reid Schobert of Omaha; 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandsons; 1 great-great granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
