June 24th, 1964- June 2nd, 2021
Kathy left this earth too soon on June 2nd, 2021, at the age of 56. She fought her battle with MS for 20+ years. In October of 2020, she began a new battle. A battle that showed incredible strength and determination. This battle was AML. Mom went into remission in April 2021 and was able to receive a Stem Cell Transplant. Mom was blessed to be matched and receive her transplant on April 13th, 2021. To her donor, we are forever grateful for you.
Kathy graduated Central High School in 1982. She spent her career working at Hy-Vee where she fell in love with her husband of 33 years and built lifelong friendships. Kathy later went on to be a caregiver to a sweet young lady fighting her own battles which created an unbreakable and loving bond between the two.
Kathy and Tod were married in 1988 and found themselves beginning their life together in Escondito, California. After several years, and a few stops, they found themselves making their way back to Omaha with their first daughter and the second one joining soon after their arrival. Her puppies were her side kicks. She later gained her son-in-law where she soon after got promoted to being Bibi, one of her greatest joys. There was not anything she loved more in life than her sweet grandbabies.
The love she had for Rod Stewart radiated through her much like the Husker Red that she bled. Kathy always had a passion for the outdoors. Whether it was watching her daughters play soccer, camping with family and friends or sitting outside on a hot summer day. A Mother’s Day was always highlighted by making sure her pots were planted and ready for the season. Game nights and concerts with friends were a few of her favorite things to do.
Kathy is survived by Husband Tod, Daughters Sarah Roop and Haley Peterson. Son-in-law Shawn Roop. Grandson Shay Roop & Granddaughter Skye Roop. Numerous family and friends.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at the UNMC Fred and Pamela Buffet Cancer Center, The Stem Cell Transplant Team and the Josie Harper Hospice House. Their compassion and dedication to Kathy was relentless and unwavering.
A Celebration of Life will be announced later.
In her memory, think kind thoughts, and plant a plant or rescue a lost animal.
