Around 1980 Joe became part owner in the Little Nipper Bar; he managed and operated it for approximately 10 years.
Over the years, he brought and updated several rental properties.
Joe and Kay were married in 1984 and moved to Ralston, Nebraska where they lived for 10 years. In 1994, they built and moved into to a home in Papillion where they resided until 2014.
Upon retirement from Union Pacific Railroad (where he worked as a conductor and served several years as Secretary/Treasurer of UTU), they made their vacation home at Lake Waconda near Union, Nebraska their permanent residence. Joe loved the lake and surrounding area where he could enjoy the water and wildlife. They bought 40 acres of land to raise aronia berries and plant fruit trees. He enjoyed riding his tractor and splitting wood.
Before his health began to decline, Joe was briefly and proudly on the Union, Nebraska Volunteer Fire Department.
Joe loved his family and said that “kids and dogs are always welcome as long as they are well behaved.”
He especially loved traveling:
* achieving a goal of platinum status on Carnival Cruise lines, visiting most islands in the Caribbean multiple times, Hawaii and Bermuda and the Panama Canal and flying to Greece to do a Mediterranean cruise and subsequent trans-Atlantic trip.
* river cruising in Europe from Budapest, Hungary through Austria and Germany to Amsterdam, Netherlands.
* visiting Ireland, Scotland and England with dear friends.
* annually traveling to Bucerias, Mexico, shared with old friends while making new friends there.
He loved to share his insight into places to travel, buying jewelry and striking a bargain with car dealers.
