Much loved husband, father and grandfather, Richard E. Kurtz, passed away Mar 27, 2018, at age 86. Dick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jackie; children Kim Burkhalter (Howie), Lisa Tully (Bob) and Rick Kurtz; as well as 10 grandchildren, Ben Burkhalter (Dudley), Megan Burkhalter, Kate Burkhalter Kennedy (Kenneth), Callie Burkhalter, Sarabeth Burkhalter, Melissa Tully Barr (William), Jackson Tully (Araksya), Zack Kurtz, Ellie Kurtz, Duncan Kurtz and one great- grandchild, Miles Barr. He is also survived by sister-in-law Jeanne Kurtz, and seven beloved nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.
Dick grew up in Paoli and lived in Berwyn. He was one of the senior members of the intellectual property law firm Woodcock Washburn, now part of Baker Hostetler, for over 50 years. His work on the patentability of computer software continues to affect patent law today.
Dick was highly involved in leadership at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Berwyn, and co-founded KHISH in 2005, an organization to conduct missions in Honduras providing medical attention and clean water to impoverished rural areas. KHISH remains active and is planning its next mission trip.
In past years Dick served on the SEPTA Board and on the Board of Supervisors of Tredyffrin Township. He was a lover of trains in every form. Dick and Jackie took many train trips, including one on the Orient Express from London to Istanbul.
Dick was a member of the Union League of Philadelphia, Waynesborough Country Club in Paoli, and the Orchid Island Gold and Beach Club in Vero Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed the company of his many friends.
Dick especially loved spending time at his farm in Marshallton where his family gathered for many happy occasions through the years.
Memorial gifts to Trinity Presbyterian Church may be made in lieu of flowers.
