Peter Albert Sears passed away at home on October 30, 2023, at the age of 85. Peter was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Jack and Mildred Sears on October 28, 1938, and grew up in Virginia and Pennsylvania. He attended Radnor High School (1956), Colgate University (1960), and Harvard Law School (1963). After time working for the federal government, Peter became Assistant General Counsel at GlaxoSmithKline (then SmithKline), rising to become Vice President for Asia, Pacific, and Canada and Director of Corporate Development. Along with assisting SmithKline in large business ventures, Peter founded and ran SmithKline’s new venture organization, Schuylkill River 1 (SR One), where he led investments in emerging pharmaceutical and health-related companies. He served as an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Business at Cornell University and on the boards of directors for several health care companies in the United States and abroad. Peter was on the board, was president of the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Union League Philadelphia and the Japan Society. Peter and his wife Cary Webb (1939-2022), married for 60 years, loved to travel, visiting all seven continents, often with close friends. They were admirers and collectors of Japanese art. Peter loved to play golf and was known for his dry sense of humor and quick one-liners. He will be profoundly missed. Peter is preceded in death by Cary Webb and his son William Peterson Sears, he is survived by his son Kevin Alden Sears, daughter-in-law Kerri Donald Sears, and several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
