Kamal was born in Bethlehem, Palestine on April 17, 1945, to Anton and Mary Hazboun. He spent his childhood between Bethlehem and Amman, Jordan where he grew up with his two brothers and five sisters. He graduated from St. Joseph’s College in London in 1967.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Pure Mathematics magna cum laude from Villanova University in 1971. He then moved back to Jordan and worked at the Royal Scientific Society and Royal Jordanian Airlines in Amman where he held several positions.
In April 1978, he married Alma Anastas in Bethlehem. They moved to State College, Pennsylvania to pursue his graduate studies at Pennsylvania State University where he completed two Master’s Degrees in Computer Science and in Business Logistics. He also worked for the university as the Assistant Director for Office Automation while pursuing his second master’s degree.
Kamal and his family moved to the Philadelphia area in 1990 to work for Xerox as a Technical Solutions Manager. He stayed with Xerox until his retirement in 2008. He then started his company, the Journey of Life, where he created a stream-lined online system for tributes.
Kamal had great pride in his accomplishments, as he improved the systems and logistics for all the projects he was involved in. He was a member of the Association of Business Doctoral Students, National Association of Artificial Intelligence, and Association of Computing Machinery. He has a list of 15 publications including two books “Mathematics for Elementary Teachers” and “Popular Proverbs in Palestine”.
Kamal and Alma have been married for 46 years. They have two children, Renna and Christopher. Kamal enjoyed home improvement projects, gardening, and spending time with his two grandchildren. Kamal had a passion for fine arts and wood working. He had collections of DIY wooden tables, Persian rugs, Backgammons tables, misbaha (Worry Beads) and many other things he found fascinating or artistic.
Kamal and Alma have traveled all over the world, but the most special place for them is their birthplace and homeland, Bethlehem, Palestine. Kamal had great pride in his birth country and continuously advocated for the rights of the land, freedom of government, and the protection of its vulnerable and occupied people.
Kamal is survived by his wife Alma and two children Renna and Christopher and his grandchildren Zayn and Julian Zahr, his two brothers, Eddie and Fouad, and his sisters Amy, Rita, Berta, Norma and Alice.
A visitation will be Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 9:00am - 10:00am at St Norbert Church, 6 Greenlawn Rd, Paoli, PA 19301 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Interment will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Phoenixville.
