Fred was born on August 29, 1950 in Flint, Michigan to Donna L. and Frederick H. Thomas.
Fred made Florida his home for over 55 years, and loved the beautiful Florida beaches. He had a passion for cooking and entertaining his many friends and relatives. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Fred had graduated from Lakewood High School in 1968 and recently served on their 50th High School Reunion committee, a task that brought him much joy. He graduated from the University of South Florida and was a Poynter Scholar. And, had been one of the youngest Eagle Scouts at the time when his family was living in Costa Mesa, Ca.
Fred’s executive career included various roles at the St. Petersburg Times and Tampa Tribune, including positions as investigative reporter and editor. He was the Group Publisher and Editor of Southern Homes Magazine, Tampa Bay Monthly Magazine and Tampa Magazine. He spent 14 years with IBM in a multitude of positions, including Service Delivery Manager and Delivery Project Executive, serving world-wide accounts.
Fred was preceded in death by both his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his sisters, Jean Barnes and Jacqueline McDonald, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and many fellow-foodie friends. We’ll see him at the beach on the other side!
