Ellis Marmor passed on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the age of 94. Ellis was an outstanding and well-respected educator who had a 30-year career teaching speech and theater in the New York City school system. As a teacher, he was afforded the opportunity to spend summers outside of the city, where he began his second career in the summer camp industry. Ellis worked his way up the ranks until he realized his dream of owning his own children’s summer camp.
The time and effort Ellis spent in operating Camps Diana-Dalmaqua for 20 years was more than repaid in the joy he experienced from helping children grow and thrive. Ellis was not only the camp owner, but also director of the kitchen and food service, chief storyteller, and occasional magician and hypnotist. Ellis was widely respected in the camping industry and was elected by his peers as President of the Association of Independent Camps.
Ellis was a devoted husband to Jeannie for 50 years, and later a devoted partner to Ellen Derwin for 18 years. He is survived by his children Nancy and Paul Geibel and Maury and Lisa Marmor, and his grandchildren Daniel Marmor and Julie Marmor.
