1926 to January 27, 2023
Adele Shamban ended her life’s journey on January 27, 2023. A unique, caring, and vibrant woman, she was greatly loved by her family and many, many friends. Adele was the oldest child of Rose and Joseph Wekstein. She was born and grew up in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and studied journalism at Boston University. She met and married Marc Shamban, and together they had five children. As the kids got older, Adele re-entered the workforce, working first at a clothing store in Newton, and then as an administrator at The Park School in Brookline. Adele and Marc lived in Newton until they moved full time to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida in 1991.
Adele was an avid bridge player and golfer, and always enjoyed traveling the world, reading, and attending theater and the symphony. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family and many dear friends.
A philanthropist, Adele gave her time and resources to a number of causes. Chief among those were New England Villages, Planned Parenthood, Jewish Federation, and Temple Judea of Palm Beach Gardens. Her energy, creativity, strong opinions, and humor were always valued by those she worked with.
Adele is survived by her loving children Cindy (Marge Sussman), Eric, Karen, Adam (Debbie), and Jill (Paul Metlin). She is also survived by her sister Brenda Rosen, her brother-in-law Benedict Rosen, sister-in-law Sallyann Wekstein, and grandchildren Max Sussman, Rachel Conover, Katie Conover, Jacob Shamban, and Zach Shamban. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews from several generations.
Adele is predeceased by her parents Rose and Joseph Wekstein, her husband Marc, her brother Walter Wekstein, and a number of close friends.
The family would like to thank Adele’s caregivers, especially Lee Andre and Terry Ann Benjamin, for their devoted care for Adele over the years. And her sibs would like to thank Jill for being Mom's chief care manager and person on the ground over the last many difficult months of mom's life—we couldn’t have done it without you!
