Victor Vargas, 58, of West Melbourne, Florida, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Born in Manhattan, NY, Victor served as a police officer and eventually a detective for the NYPD, serving his country in search efforts following 9/11. He previously served in the United States Air Force. In 2006, Victor moved from Yonkers, NY to Melbourne, FL where he continued his dedication to public service, working for FIT as security.
Victor loved many things; first and foremost, his family. He was a die-hard NY Mets baseball fan and loved to bowl, traveling internationally for tournaments. It was a tournament in Mexico where he met his beloved wife, Luz Adriana. In his younger years, he was a star athlete, playing both baseball and football. He is remembered fondly as #85 "Killer Bee." He practiced karate, earning his red belt, with his children by his side. He loved to dance and enjoyed comedy, especially his favorite comedian, "Fluffy" Gabriel Iglesias. Not only was he a strength in his community and family, Victor had a softer side. He wrote poetry that was kept close by his loved ones, and a bond he shared with his daughter, Isabella.
He was met in Heaven by his father Victor L. Vargas. He is survived by his wife, Luz Magallanes; mother, Iris Vargas; children: Victor, Nicole, Isabella, and Adrian; siblings: Matilde Natal, Luis, and Steve; granddaughter, Aubrey Grace Vargas; as well as many extended family members. Victor also shared a special bond with his partner at the NYPD, Edward Rodriguez; his brother-in-law, Hector Natal; his "Polish sister" Alina Szeliga; and his nephew, Vincent Natal.
Family will receive friends at Fountainhead Funeral Home on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 5-8PM. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 1PM complete with military honors.
