Ursula was born in Deutsch-Eylau, East Prussia. Ursula was the only daughter born to Joseph Berger and Paula Klein. Ursula did have a half-sister Heidi Feliner who preceded her, and a half-brother Lothar Berger and his wife Eris still living in Dorsten, Germany. Ursula also has a first cousin Renate Roth living in Chemnitz, Germany.
Ursula fled during World War II from East Prussia to Garmisch-Parten-Kirchen where she was raised by her father and step mother. Ursula attanded the Berlitz School of Language and became an interpreter for the US Army. This is where she met and married Staff Sergeant Ralph N. Durant.
Ursula traveled back and forth to Europe with her husband and family as a military wife. They settled in Palm Bay, Florida in 1968 once Ralph retired from the Army with 23 years of service, Ursula worked at Radiation, before it became Harris Corporation and is now L3 Harris. She retired from Harris with 20 years of service. Ursula did write her life's story titled "The Path Of My Life".
Ursula was a member of St. Joseph Cathoic Church since 1968. Ursula's main love of her life were her many-many animals and of couse her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ursula will be remembered for her love of animals, and always taking in unwanted dogs.
Ursula is survived by her children, Joseph L. Durant (Sandi) from Las Vegas, NV. Debra Sandberg (Carl) from Melbourne, FL. Cindy Hammel (Ross) from Palm Bay, FL. Grandchildren, Angela Durant, Ana McIntee, Ross Hammel, III, Jeremy Hammel, Sara Hammel, and Rachel Hammel. Great Grandchildren,
Draylan Feraren-Durant, Andrea McIntee, Dewey, Dakota and Michael Jacobs, Lily, Aden and Jacob Hammel.
A visitation for Ursula will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909, followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 AM.
The interment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
