We lost a beautiful angel, Imogene McNabb Fleming, age 89 of Indian Harbor Beach, Florida. She passed away surrounded by her loving family. Her children, grandchildren and sister were able to comfort her as she passed into the loving arms of Jesus, her Savior. Imogene will be terribly missed by her sister and family, her daughters and their families, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends. She will be missed most of all by her husband, Jay Fleming of 40 years who loves her dearly.
Imogene was born in Erwin, Tennessee on June 2, 1931, the daughter of Charlie and Gertrude McNabb. She is predeceased by her mother, father and five brothers: Leland, James, Charles, Donald, Louis and grandson, Emmanuel. Imogene is survived by a loving husband, Jay Fleming, daughters: Patricia Husband and husband Thomas, Lynda Clay and husband Timothy, Cay Tomich and husband Rex and sister Barbara McNabb Corey. The grandchildren include Diana Husband and husband Mike Grasberger, Caylee Clay and finance Ralph Rosario, Carston Clay, Jordan Craig and wife Erin and son Jack, Austin Craig and son Carston, Carlton Craig, Keaton Craig, Camille Craig, Stetson Craig, Brenson Craig, Lauren Craig, Travis Tomich and fiancé Maya and daughter Maddison, Lauren Follett (Tomich) and husband Zachary, son Liam and baby arriving in June. There are also many loved nieces and nephews.
Imogene entered her successful professional career at age 18 upon graduation from Unicoi County High School when she accepted the position of secretary to the Farmer's County Agent of Unicoi county. After several years she began working for a local doctor and enjoyed showing great compassion to many people. In 1960 Imogene moved to Palm Bay, Florida to become an administrative assistant at the Radiation Corporation. Wherever she worked she made many friends and was well respected for her efficiency and character.
Imogene and Jay met at a Sunday school picnic and were married on February 14, 1980, a second marriage for them both. Later, Imogene adopted Jay’s three adult daughters: Patricia, Lynda and Susan Cay with their joyous consent.
After retirement from Harris Corporation, Imogene and Jay enjoyed traveling in their RV to many areas of the US and Canada. On these journeys they made many friends and always found a place to worship God. Sometimes the grandchildren traveled with them. Imogene also took up painting and enjoyed painting the photos taken during their journeys. Many of her paintings hang in her daughter’s homes. When the grandbabies arrived, she quilted baby blankets for many of them.
Imogene was an active member of First Baptist Church of Indialantic. She enjoyed her Sunday school class as well as her many Bible classes conducted by Pastor Jim Johnson. Imogene attended church and Sunday school until her health prevented her from attending.
