Joseph Lopes, 88, of Palm Bay died Thursday (4/24) at the William Childs Hospice House. A native of New Bedford, Mass, he came to the Palm Bay area in 2002 from Freetown, Mass. Joseph was a Catholic and a veteran of WWII and Korea, having served in the US Navy as well as the Merchant Marines. Having a love for cooking, Joseph had been a chef prior to retiring. He also enjoyed his hobby of wood working.
Preceded in death by his parents: Antonio and Michaela Rosario Lopes; Joseph is survivors include his wife of 45 years: Mary; sons: Joseph J. of New Bedford, Antone J. of Dartmouth, Mass, Kenneth J. of California, Arthur Almeida of Palm Bay, Henry J. of Massachusetts; daughters: Lisa Barros of Palm Bay, Carol Ann Almeida of New Bedford, Mass, Frances Gilbert of New Bedford, Mass, Anita Gomes of Mass; brothers: Joaquin of New Bedford, Mass, Antone, Jr. of Maryland; sisters: Mary Mendes of Dartmouth, Mass, Hilda Correia of Mass, Juanita also of Mass; many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of Joseph’s life will be held at Fountainhead Funeral Home Chapel, May 8, 2014 at 2:00pm
