Early Years
Glanville Elroy Rabsatt (Rap) was born on May 8, 1946 in the U.S. Virgin Islands to the late Leonard and Syhania Rabsatt. He came to the US when he was three years old and resided in the Northeast Bronx with his parents and brothers. He attended Evander Childs High School and graduated in 1965. During his early years he made numerous friends, whom he remained in contact with throughout his life. Rap was a quiet guy who enjoyed his friends and loved his family. He entered the Air Force in 1965 and served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.
Middle Years
After his discharge in 1968 from the service, he returned home, to the Bronx. He started dating a young girl that he met before he entered the service and knew as a family friend. Barbara and Rap were joined in holy matrimony on November 2, 1969 and spent 48 wonderful and fulfilling years together. From this union two beautiful daughters, Felicia Nicole and Jennifer Dawn, were born. Life became busy and full of new adventures with the addition of children. Rap joined the Department of Corrections in April 1973, and embarked on a law enforcement career. This was natural for him, as he was a military police in the Air Force. Rap continued his rise in the department through promotions and completion of a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He proudly retired in 1994 after 21 years as a Deputy Warden. On his retirement he left his correction family, but never failed to keep in contact and mentor some of the younger officers that sought his knowledge and fairness.
Later Years
After Rap’s retirement the family moved to Florida, which was his dream. Rap wanted to be in a place that was warm after being stationed in Florida while he was in the Air Force. Life continued to be busy and fulfilling with him pursuing another career in the Department of Children and Family, the college graduations of both of his daughters, the marriage of his eldest daughter Felicia to Jeff, and the wonderful and joyous birth of two grandchildren, Ashley and Jayden. The later years of total retirement afforded Rap the ability to pursue his interest. He loved reading and discovering his true roots and ancestry, cruising the Caribbean, enjoying weekend jaunts to the Casino, his reggae music, enlightening and educating his grandchildren and anyone who would listen, on their culture and history, great food and fabulous family and friends.
Rap leaves his loving wife Barbara, his daughters Jennifer and Felicia, her husband Jeff their children Ashley and Jayden, brother in law Lloyd, brothers Junior, Calvin, Randolph, Reuben, Andy, and sister Eleanor, a host of cousins and extended family, and lifelong friends from his youth and beyond to include his Florida crew George, Reggie, Dave and Norman his friend from kindergarten.
As we celebrate the wonderful and full life of Rap, he will be greatly missed but, we find solace knowing he will be our forever guardian angel.
As Rap would say, “Peace out”.
