David “Dave” Russell Riddle peacefully passed away at age 66 in Barefoot Bay, Florida. Dave was a devoted husband, a proud father of four children and six grandchildren, and a career warrior in the auto industry. Born in Avon, Ohio, on June 20, 1957, Dave was also a long-time resident of Detroit, Michigan, and Blaine, Washington.
In his early years, Dave’s boundless sense of humor, passion for sports, and unwavering care for others formed the foundation of the husband, father, friend, and community member he would become. An engaged and active participant in the lives of those around him, he offered rides, responded eagerly to every call for a coach, checked in on others who needed support, ensured every meal had enough for one or two extra plates, and helped many families find first cars for newly turned 16-year-olds. The ways in which Dave gave to those around him were abundant, but most importantly, he never sought anything in return for his selfless acts of kindness. Dave’s boundless sense of humor and charismatic personality made him the go-to for inspiration, tough love, or a much-needed kick in the pants. All were delivered with a grin that could light up a room and leave everyone fortunate enough to know him feeling lucky to call David a friend.
A self-proclaimed “simple man,” Dave found joy in the company of his wife, family, friends, long road trips, well-manicured lawns and gardens, good music, tie-dye clothing, hunting and fishing with his kids, golf with his buddies, long hikes with his dogs, and anything baked by his wife and daughters. Dave discovered immeasurable joy in the laughter and love he shared with his grandchildren. To them, he wasn't just Grandpa, Pops, or Papa, but a source of encouragement, strength, and wisdom, building special relationships that lit up all of their lives.
Dave is preceded in death by his father, Russell Riddle, his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Riddle (Abel), his brother William "Bill" Riddle, and sister Mary Anne Ives (Riddle). He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 43 years, Maribeth Riddle (Harig); his younger brother Mark Riddle; and his four children and their partners: Jesse Riddle & Nicole Roehrig, David and Rachelle Riddle (Anderson), Becky Riddle, Keith and Nicole Wogan (Riddle). Dave took immense pride in being the adored grandfather of six grandchildren: David, Emmett, Hope, Thomas, Easton, and Olivia.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Those who wish to honor his life are encouraged to donate to support research for glioblastoma brain cancer.
