My first memory of my Uncle Chuck was the day that he pulled up in the driveway of our house , I had never met this Uncle, but I will never forget the big smile on his face. It seem to glow and you could feel the joy . Then I looked at the vehicle and the kids started flowing out of the car , Wow these were all my cousins , I just got a whole bunch of new friends, Then my Aunt Bonnie got out of the car and her Smile was a big as Uncle Chucks. What a wonderful day that was , I played with my new cousins, I snacked on  
 " Sea weed "  that my Aunt Bonnie gave me and I looked at all the cool rocks my Uncle had , he called it Jade.  Then my Brothers who obviously had more memories of this Uncle called him ' Unkie Chunky " a reference to his size,  but to me made him closer to Santa Clause. From then on I looked forward to seeing my " Unkie Chunky " and his warm smile will never be forgotten. 

I was sitting with Alita in the hospital - Chuck and Bonnie came to visit and I just stood back and observed. The years just seemed to melt away, and Alita's "Daddy" emerged ... he was so sweet and attentive, concerned and a little worried, solicitous and watchful ... his "baby girl" was hurting and he was hurting, too. He kept a hand on Bonnie and one on Alita, as if he was connecting his family, literally. He asked me if I knew his other girls, too (I had met Elaine several times, but only heard of and seen pictures of Donna + family). He went on and on about how these were the lights of his life. FAMILY was extremely important to him.  When I later heard about the reintegration of EVERYONE, I was not surprised to find him overjoyed. And, when Grand babies came along, he was so delighted to give and receive their attention. What a fabulous legacy of love he has left in his wake. I'm glad my path crossed his and I got to see and hear the tales of the love that binds. Bedrock, I say! 

I first met Chuck 6 years ago while I was dating his daughter Donna, now we are married to each other. She had asked me to be nice to him because I am Navy and he is a Marine. When we shook hands he said " So you're a Squid." I replied "Yes sir and you're a Jarhead." Well Donna heard me but didn't hear her father and said "I thought that I asked you to be nice." My reply was "He fired first and I get to return fire." At that time he said "That is right Honey Girl I started it" and then he laughed. 
        From that moment on we were friends and we would talk by the pond made in memory of his beloved wife Katsuko. I never did meet her and for that I am sorry. I know by listening to him talk about her, that he loves her so very much and missed her even more. When ever we could get together we always had great conversations about Katsuko and his service and his family. 
       I am so much richer for knowing this man and receiving his love as well. The last time that I visited him I was coming out of the guest room and he was coming out of the bathroom. He didn't realize that I was in the house and when he saw me his eyes lit up and his "Well hello Son" . He always treated me like family and never faltered on showing his love for his family. I was given an example of how a man should treat his family and be there for them when they need it. Rest easy Chuck I will take care of your family to the best of my abilities.
