Robert Owen Emmett, formerly of Pacific Grove, passed away peacefully in Sacramento at the age of 80. Born in Hillsborough, California to Owen and Carol McCusker, he later became Robert Emmett after his mother remarried. Robert was formerly married to Janice Emmett for 47 years and he loved her dearly. Robert is survived by his son, Derek & Jill Emmett; his step-children, Gary Banuelos, Cindy Tucker, and Lisa Banuelos-Martin and his sister Geri Lynn.
Robert grew up in Hillsborough, and after High School joined the Navy. He would later meet the love of his life, Janice, in San Francisco, and the two of them spent most of their years on the Monterey Peninsula, which they loved so much. Robert became a Chef and loved making wonderful dishes with his wife, Janice. Before becoming a Chef he worked at Holman’s Department Store in the 1960’s. As a Chef he worked and also independently ran many restaurants with Janice on the Peninsula and in Paradise, California. The two frequently entertained family and friends with amazing food and conversation, and were the glue that held the extended family together.
Robert and Janice briefly relocated to Paradise to live in the mountains. They returned to Carmel Valley to be the Ranch Managers at Merv Griffin's Ranch for 24 years. Their relationship with Merv was one of family and laughter. Robert was skilled at woodcarving, making furniture for family, vegetable gardens, singing, and he adored language and conversations on all topics. He loved to explore the human boundaries with people, and pushing the envelopes in those relationships.
Funeral Services will be at The Little Chapel by-the-Sea, 65 Asilomar Ave. in Pacific Grove next Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 am. Please visit www.thepaulmortuary.com to sign Robert’s guest book and leave messages for his family.
