In 1949, he joined the U.S. Army. Afterwards, he attended the Danbury State Teacher’s College (University of Connecticut) and received his B.S. degree in 1955 and his M.A. from the University of Connecticut in 1958.
His teaching career began in Hartford, Connecticut and then overseas where he taught in Japan, Morocco and Germany. While there he met his future wife, also a teacher. After teaching in Germany, he moved to the Monterey Peninsula, was married in 1961, and resided there for over 50 years. He taught for the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District for 30 years before retiring in 1990.
Hobbies that he enjoyed included vintage radios and clocks and electronics. He was also an avid Amateur Ham Radio operator, in which he held a license for almost 40 years, achieving various recognitions during that time. In addition, after retirement he enjoyed computers, doing research, reading, movies, some travel, family and friends, and just taking each day as it came.
He will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by Ruth, his wife of almost 54 years; children Barbara DiMaio (Doug), Michael Campos, and Karen Berry (Ron); grandchildren Ron, Karli, and Bryan; brother Joseph; and cousin Charles Campos.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church located on Lighthouse at 9th Street in Pacific Grove.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: Hospice of the Central Coast; 2 upper Ragsdale Drive, D-120; Monterey, CA 93940-5730.
