Monterey
John M. Hazdovac, a Monterey native, passed away at his home. He was proud of the fact he began working at the age of 9 at his parents fish market, Hazdovac Fish Market, on Fisherman’s Wharf. After graduating from Monterey High School, he served in the US Army during the Korean War.
John was successful in multiple industry’s including construction, commercial fishing, and farming. He was a supervisor and estimator with Granite Construction in a career spanning twenty-seven years. He worked as commercial fisherman for five years and he bought and worked a 40 acre citrus grove in Terra Bella, CA for twenty years before moving back to Monterey in 2012.
John enjoyed dirt track racing and being a pit boss. He especially liked spending time tending his gardens.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell & Catherine Hazdovac & grandson, Taylor Embree. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of Monterey; his children, Michael (Celia) Hazdovac of Bakersfield, Johnna (Clayton) Embree of Tehachapi and Suzanne (Mike) Collins of Terra Bella; his step-son, Jason (Adriana) Scheer of Porterville; his brother, Nicholas (Marilyn) Hazdovac of Monterey; his grandchildren, Sarah, Nathan, Luke, Seth, Hannah, Ian, Grace, Ruth, Teri, April, Katie, Mitchell, John, Avion and Christopher and his 18 great-grandchildren.
