Dr. George Wesley Bishop passed away January 7, 2024 at his home in Carmel, California. George was born October 15, 1940 to Rowland and Mary Bishop. He grew up on The Bishoprian Farms, a dairy and hog farm near Milford Center, Ohio. He graduated from Union Local High School in 1958. George was very active and received many awards in 4-H and FFA. He showed Holstein cows and Yorkshire hogs at the Union County Fair and The Ohio State Fair.
George graduated from The Ohio State University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1965. He served with the US Army Veterinary Corps at Fitzsimmons Veterinary Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. Dr. Bishop then opened The Animal Hospital at the Crossroads in Carmel, California in 1969 and continued for over 50 years. He was very active and held numerous leadership roles with the California Veterinary Medicine Association and the American Veterinary Medicine Association. His life’s work showed extreme compassion for his furry 4-legged clients, as well as the families who loved them.
George is survived by his sister, Janet Bishop Kiser and her husband Harvey; nephew, David Kiser; nieces Karen Remsing, Annette Kennedy, and Marilee Edwards; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and 3 great-great- nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are being held at The Paul Mortuary, Pacific Grove, California on Friday, January 19 at 1:00pm. Cremated ashes will be placed with his parents in the Oakdale Cemetery in Marysville, Ohio in July.
