Dorothy was born on May 1, 1921 in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, second daughter of Michael and Jane Reid. She passed away on June 10, 2022 in Monterey, California.
Dorothy’s public school years were spent in Stafford Springs, Connecticut where she graduated as valedictorian of Stafford High School class of 1938. She then attended the Morse Business College in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated in 1939.
Prior to moving to California in 1974, Dorothy lived in Ridgewood, New Jersey and worked as a Vice President & Secretary of Kennedy Sinclaire, Inc., a nationally known financial advertising and sales training agency that no longer exists. Prior to that Dorothy worked for 12 years with Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, both in Hartford, Connecticut and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In 1974, Dorothy moved to Carmel, California where she was active in the Community Hospital Auxiliary beginning in 1978 and volunteered for a total of 32 years. She also became a Communicant at Carmel Mission Basilica.
Dorothy was predeceased by both of her parents and by her older sister, Ruth, who died in the Cocoanut Grove fire in Boston in 1942.
Dorothy’s hobbies include: music, theatre, animals, and reading.
She is survived by cousins, Diane Gott (Jeffrey) and Richard Gardella, both of Ogunquit, Maine, Lisa Flagg of Glastonbury, Connecticut, and Mary (Michael) Gardener of Vernon, Connecticut.
No services will be held. Interment will be in the Reid family plot at St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Glastonbury, Connecticut.
