Armand Labbe was born on October 23, 1921 and died at the age of 101. He was born in Murray, Utah, son of Armand Labbe and Theora Maud Capson. He spent his young years in Salt Lake City, moved to Tormey California for several years and returned to Salt Lake City where he attended East High School and two years at the University of Utah. He transferred the the University of Michigan where he graduated in 1943 with a degree in chemical engineering. He began his business career that year with ASARCO, Inc. at their copper refinery in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. The career was interrupted by WWII where he spent two years in the Army Air Corps.
His 43 years with ASARCO had him located at various gold, silver, lead and copper smelters and refineries in California, Washington, Perth Amboy NJ and the Company head quarters in New York . He was plant manager at the California and Washington State locations, and later moved into the corporate Vice President position in N.Y before he retired in 1986.
After retiring he moved to Carmel by the Sea. He and his wife, Ona lived in the village for 25 years then moved to the Carmel Valley Manor. Over the years he was docent at Point Lobos and an active member in the Carmel Foundation. They enjoyed traveling throughout the world and played golf at famous locations in the states and overseas.
Mr. Labbe married Theona Runyon in 1946 and enjoyed 75 years of a great life together. He is survived by his son Steven.
