Nellie Hernandez was born on April 16, 1941, 8th of 12 children to Pablo and Ventura Aparicio. Grew up in Bakersfield California. She met and married Rudy Hernandez Sr. and was a loving wife to him for 62 years. In Imperial they welcomed their first-born Rudy Hernandez Jr. (Gloria). The young family moved
to Waterford where they welcomed two daughters Maria Hernandez (deceased) and Dolores Rodriguez (Jaime Rodriguez deceased). As a young mom she worked at Hartfield department store. Later Nellie began working as a bi-lingual teacher’s aide and this would be the beginning of over 30 years in the education field. In 1973 the family moved to Oxnard, California and she enjoyed being a busy mother of three. In 1991 she welcomed the first of 6 grandchildren (Isaac, Joseph, Elizabeth, James, Mia, and Benjamin) then in 2009 she became a step great grandma (Aiden). She devoted her time to family and loved to go on trips and adventures. She led by example and was an intellectual before her time.
Mom was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, April 6, 2024. We will miss her every day. The family would like to thank all who have expressed their condolences and strength.
A Celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. Del Angel Mortuary, 401 W. Channel Islands Blvd., Oxnard, CA.
