It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jose “O'Jay” Fino, a gifted musician, O’Jay passed away on November 17, 2024, at the age of 64. He is survived by his children Sonia Marie Fino, Fabian Fino, and Maria Christina Fino. Grandchildren Leo Isaac Duran, Destiny Jahnae Duran, Ezra Matthew Duran, Isabella Marie De La Virgen, Ava Danielle Fino, Damian Fino, Adrina Juarez, Daniel Quesada, Deliliah Quesada, Manuel Quesada, Miles Maheno, Michel Maheno and Great Grandchildren Troy Erwing and Jesse Quesada.
Born on March 19, 1960, in Mexicali, Baja California, O’Jay discovered his love for music early on. A self-taught musician to his core, he played with a passion that resonated deeply with everyone who had the privilege of hearing him perform. O’Jay Fino had a stage presence in life, and you could not help but be drawn to his natural charisma. He was a mentor to aspiring musicians and a friend to all, offering guidance and support with a generous spirit. For decades, Jose was an integral part of the Oxnard and surrounding areas' music scene, playing in various local bands, such as El Barrio, Luz y Sombra, Sensacion, and Oro Blanco. O'Jays music created a lasting bond between him and the lives he touched.
Beyond his musical talent, O’Jay was a kind-hearted and humble man who believed in the power of family and community. He enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams Cowboys, Dodgers, Lakers, and Club América. He would often travel with his great friends from Club América to watch many of their games. He was an endearing and funny person to know. He loved to make people feel seen and cared for. O’Jay’s infectious smile and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
O’Jay is survived by his beloved family, including his children, siblings, and a wide circle of friends and fellow musicians. His contributions to the Oxnard music scene will continue to echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of sharing in his love of music.
O'Jay’s viewing will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Oxnard 401 W Channel Islands Blvd, Oxnard, CA. Monday, December 2nd, 2024, from 12 p.m., Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Funeraria Del Angel, Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, at 10 a.m. burial to follow at the Santa Clara Cemetery. We entrust the memorial services with Funeraria Del Angel.
