Alfred Carmona was born on Mission Street in Los Angeles, Ca. to Jose Maria Carmona and Soledad S. Carmona on 11/28/1930. The youngest of seven children. He was brought to Oxnard as a baby. He attended Haydock School followed by Wilson School then Oxnard High School class of 1949. He played Varsity basketball and ran track. He passed away on Feb. 3, 2021 into the heavenly arms of our Lord Jesus at St. John’s Hospital after a brief illness.
Our dad served in the Army Infantry in the Korean War from 1951-1953 and received service honors. He was a “true patriot” and always became very emotional when the national anthem was sung and when the pledge of allegiance was recited. He loved this country and was a member of Veterans of foreign wars and enrolled in the Veterans Health Administration and a member of the Korean War Veterans Association.
Alfred even went into “show business”. During this time he was performing in a Mariachi trio when they were asked to audition in Hollywood. They were called back for a second audition but did not make the audition because they were all drafted into the army. My dad would say it was his “short moment of fame”.
Alfred married the love of his life Anita Nava on 4/7/1954. They were married for 66 years. They were blessed with four daughters; Rosanna Romero(Armando Sr.),Mary Evelyn Rodrick, Lorraine Sanchez(Larry), and Julie Mcmurrey(Duke Windsor). Only surviving brother Angel Carmona, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews. Alfred worked as a route salesman for 35 years and retired in 1992 @ 62 years of age from Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. He had many hobbies including gardening, playing dominoes, and woodcrafting projects making benches. He also helped with Food Share of Ventura County for a few years. He also enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. He was a big Laker fan and was able to finally see the Lakers win the championship in 2020.
Our father loved people and loved to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. On January 11th 1981 at the age of 50 he was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ at the Oxnard Apostolic Church by Pastor Robert Ramirez. He was actively involved in music ministry and evangelism where he played guitar in a trio and then with a group called “Los Redimidos”. They would travel and sing all over central and Southern California. He loved attending church and became “head usher” @ Oxnard Revival Center in El Rio.
Alfred was so proud of his four daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved his family and it gave him great joy and happiness to get together and celebrate a birthday or family event. He would play his guitar and sing for us and serenade his grandchildren.
My dad’s desire was to have all his family live in harmony and to continue his Legacy of serving the Lord and sharing the Acts 2:38 message to all. One of his favorite scriptures. “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord”. Joshua 24:15.
