Born in New York, New York, he was the son of Rudolph Theodore Riedel and Florence Rose Shaw Riedel. Robert served his country in the Vietnam War while in the United States Navy. He graduated from Florida Technological University (FTU), now called University of Central Florida, in 1976 with a B.A. in Marketing and Management. Bob was a brother of Delta Sigma Pi at the University of Central Florida. He was a member of the Orlando Jaycees Chapter. He was a licensed 2-20 Property and Casualty insurance agent in Florida. He opened his first insurance agency in 1983, later expanding to seven locations serving all of Central Florida.
He was a kind hearted, loving, hilarious soul. He was so proud of his three children, two son-in-laws and eight beautiful grandchildren. Robert loved spending time with his family especially in Melbourne Beach and Longboat Key . He loved many cats and dogs that he had throughout the years. He could fix almost anything and was proud of his work. He never met a stranger and loved his friends like they were family. Rob loved to go out and have a good time and was an incredible dancer proficient in the foxtrot, the waltz, and many others. He was the life of the party and made others laugh, cared deeply for those he loved and would do anything possible to help others in need.
He is survived by his ex-wife and close friend Geraldine Riedel, daughter Jennifer Sandberg (Jason Sandberg) and son Jeffrey Riedel, daughter Christine Johnson (Joe Johnson). grandchildren Grant Sandberg (22), Grace Sandberg (18), Hunter Sandberg (16), Taber Johnson (13), Faith Sandberg (11), Luke Sandberg (11), Trenton Johnson (11) and Tate Johnson (8), his sister Doris Armstrong McGahy (Bill McGahy), his brother in-law Elmo Neff, along with many nieces and nephews, as well as his precious dog Chico Riedel.
The funeral service will be held on February 28, 2019 at 11:00am at Northland Church located at 530 Dog Track Road in Longwood, Florida 32750. There will be a brief viewing from 10:00 - 10:45am that morning at the church. The visitation will be held on Wednesday February 27, 2019 from 5:00- 8:00pm at National Cremation and Burial Society located at 7565 Red Bug Lake Road in Oviedo, Florida 32765. The burial will be on March 1, 2019 at 12:30pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery with full military honors. All are welcome to attend.
