Priscilla Grala, 96, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020. Priscilla was born October 7, 1923 in San Germán, Puerto Rico to Maria Luisa Pabón and Jose Monserate Velez Caravallo. She was raised in San German with her three sisters, Dinorah Velez de Lugo (deceased), Rosa Vidalina Velez Fennewald (deceased), and Eunice Velez Romano who enjoyed singing together and were close throughout their lives. On December 9, 1943 Priscilla married Peter Paul Grala (deceased) and had a daughter, Lynette Grala Calcaterra (husband Dennis W. Calcaterra) and son, Gareth Peter Paul Grala (deceased).
Priscilla began her career as a typist at Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico and was consistently promoted, winning multiple superior performance awards and certificates of merit for her diligent service. She won recognition and monetary awards for her suggestions for greater efficiency and organization in the accounting and finance division. In 1973 she was recruited to join the Command Section of Headquarters Air Weather Service at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois as the Management Assistant until she retired in 1990 at age 67.
Priscilla moved to Oviedo, Florida where her family and her house were her pride and joy. She was a smart, independent woman who loved to laugh and debate any topic. A passionate Democrat, she also enjoyed her telenovelas, chocolates, and sweets, and most of all, the company of her family and extended family.
Priscilla was deeply loved by her grandchildren, Priscille Marie Calcaterra Dando (husband Kevin Dando), Keith Wayne Calcaterra, and Eunice Adriena Calcaterra Koehne (deceased), who spent their summers growing up at Grandma’s house in Illinois; her great-granddaughter, Ellen Paige Dando; the Fennewald families, the Romano families, the Lopez family; the Robert families, the Ortiz family and the Epstein families.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2020, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Oviedo, FL. Burial will follow at All Faiths Cemetery, Casselberry, FL. Flowers may be sent to Most Precious Blood Catholic Church at 113 Lockwood Avenue, Oviedo, FL 32766, for delivery on 10/14/19 by 10:00 a.m.
