Mary Luckie Herzog

Mary L. Herzog, 87 years of age, passed peacefully on Friday evening, July 7th, 2017 after experiencing health complications earlier in the week. She was given last rites and was with family at the time of her death.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph H. Herzog 86 and their seven children: Joseph B. Herzog 58, Molly Herzog Knott 57, Anne Herzog 55, Peter Herzog 54, John Herzog 52, Paul Herzog 50, and Julia Herzog 46.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Nicole Herzog 27, Ian Bane-Herzog 25, Brooke Bane-Herzog 23, Jack Marhoefer 18, and Grace Marhoefer 14.

She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Golden and her 2 children, James and Jane Golden.

She was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, and raised her children in Madison, NJ. She and her husband then retired to FL. They have been married for 59 years.

There was nothing more important to Mary than her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was also a devout Catholic and for many years was a parishioner at St. Vincent’s church in Madison. Mary was a registered nurse, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the first nursing graduation class at Villanova University.

While in Madison, Mary served as a CCD teacher, school substitute nurse and paramedic, volunteering for the Madison Ambulance Squad. She also worked for many years as a nurse at St. Anne’s Villa in Convent Station, taking care of elderly and ill nuns.

Like most mothers, she was the center of her family. She appreciated humor, and her children would often say anything to hear her contagious laugh. She was quiet, private, and generous to all. We will miss her greatly.

A mass will be held in her memory on Thursday, July 27th, 11:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 113 Lockwood Blvd., Oviedo, FL. A reception will follow afterwards at the home of Joseph and Mary Herzog. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of our mother’s favorite charities, Covenant House.
