Colonel Terry was born August 21, 1923 in Dallas, Texas. He died March 5, 2018 in Orlando, Florida. He entered the USMC on October 26, 1942 and was commissioned a 2ndLieutenant on November 27, 1944.
After seeing service on Guam, Saipan, and Okinawa in W.W. 2, he participated in the occupation of Japan with the 2ndMarines of the 2ndMarine Division. He returned to the Continental United States with the 6thMarines and reverted to inactive status September 10, 1946.
He attended Southern Methodist University, earning a B.B.A. in 1947. While doing graduate work and working for a Dallas CPA firm, he was recalled to active duty February 1, 1951, and served in Korea with the 5thMarines of the 1stMarine Division. Returning To CONUS in 1952, he accepted a regular commission and was assigned to Camp Pendleton, CA.
Throughout his career, he held numerous positions at various levels within the Marine Corps. Additionally, he was an Advisor to Chiang Kai Shek’s Chinese Marine Corps on Formosa; a Technical Advisor in Hollywood, CA on the movie “Battle Zone” (1952); Logistics Instructor, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Quantico VA; Logistics Presenter, advance base problem “CORMORANT” (a communications network) presenting in the Continental United States and the NATO countries; and as a Marine Corps Liaison Officer, Naval Training Service Center, Orlando, FL. He coordinated all training device procurement, both ground and air for the Marine Corps.
In addition to the service ribbons and medals spanning three wars, he held the Legion of Merit Medal with Combat “V” Meritorious Service Medal, and the Republic of South Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with the Silver Star Retired on August 31, 1973 with the rank of Colonel.
He was an investor after brokering real estate for 15 years.
He also held life memberships in the Marine Corps League, Retired Officer’s Association, Marine Div. Association, 1stMarine Div. Association, Naval Order of the US. and the M.O.W.W. (Military Order of World War).
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 20, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home 501 East Mitchell Hammock Road, Oviedo, Florida 32765.
