10/18/1947 – 5/6/2020
Ted Aulin was born in Orlando, Florida and welcomed into the Aulin family on October 18, 1947 by his parents, Theodore “Pete” Aulin Jr. and Novella Carter Aulin. He joined his sister, Diane Aulin Pentz and was a 4th generation Aulin. His great grandfather, Andrew Aulin named Oviedo in 1879.
Ted left this earth peacefully at 4:00 pm on May 6, 2020 and was surrounded by his loving family and friends. He fought a gallant battle with cancer for 15 years but was ready to go to heaven and meet Jesus and join his mother, father and sister who predeceased him and who he missed terribly.
Ted lived in Oviedo his whole life and loved this community! He knew everybody in town while growing up. He often said that you could tell who was coming down the road by the sound of their car. He loved to tell stories about his years of growing up in Oviedo during the 50’s and 60’s. He had a keen sense of memory as he shared stories that included vivid details and dates of various events that occurred in Oviedo. Likewise, many stories were told about him and his silly antics to his family by other Oviedo folks! Ted was quite the mischievous little boy!
Ted went to the same school in Oviedo for all 12 years and graduated in 1965 with 35 classmates who all remained close through the years. He also attended Orlando Junior College and Valencia College.
Ted met the love of his life, Liz Moon Aulin in 1971 when introduced by a mutual friend. It was love at first sight and they were engaged 6 weeks later and blessed to have had almost 48 years of marriage. They built a small home in their first year of marriage and filled it with love as they welcomed a son, Jason Theodore Aulin and later, a daughter, Nicole Leigh Aulin to complete their family. Ted was a loving husband and father and a strong Christian role model for his children. He loved the Lord and his family so much.
Ted loved sports of all kind and particularly loved bass fishing. He could tell many fishing stories with such flair and spent many hours on the St. John’s River and other local lakes in the area. He was constantly involved in his children’s lives and took them fishing and boating and participated in the various sports they were involved in through the years. During these years, Ted himself continued to play on adult basketball and softball teams! He grew up playing baseball, basketball and football and loved the competitiveness of these sports. He was a big Atlanta Braves fan and was crazy about the Dallas Cowboys! His children surprised him with tickets to a Cowboys football game in Dallas, Texas for his 70th Birthday. Liz stayed behind with the grandchildren so his kids could spend the weekend with him in Dallas to enjoy this game live at the stadium. It was an incredibly special gift and time spent with his children that meant so much to him.
Ted worked in the corporate office of Darden Restaurants for 25 years in the Inventory and Distribution Departments and had many friends and acquaintances through the years. He was well versed in the seafood area and knew what was good when it came to selecting seafood on a menu! After retiring from Darden, he went to work for Seminole County in the Parks and Recreation Department for 12 years and loved working at the Altamonte Softball Complex. He said it was his dream job because he was totally involved in sports which he loved, and he also met so many wonderful people who played on the various softball leagues.
Unfortunately, Ted’s cancer diagnosis cut his retirement years short and Liz and Ted’s retirement dreams did not come to fruition, but they did have a chance to enjoy many cruises and trips that they took prior to him getting sick.
Ted was raised from a child attending the First Baptist Church in Oviedo and served in many capacities there including a Sunday School teacher and Deacon. Many friends and relationships were rooted there in our Sunday School classes, and Ted had many sweet memories of his life there. In the last 20 years, he called University Carillon his church home where he formed new bonds and loved worshipping his Lord there.
Ted is survived by his wife, Liz Aulin and 2 children, Jason (& Lori) Aulin, and Nicole (& Richie) Jakubcin, and his 4 granddaughters whom he adored, Emma Aulin, Ragan Jakubcin, and Laci & Shelbi Jakubcin. In addition, he leaves behind his brother in law, Richard (& Robin) Moon, and sister in laws, Patty (& Doug) Tatro and Donna Moon along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and too many friends to count!
Everyone will miss Ted immensely. He was a “one of a kind” guy, gentle and loving. His last words were that he loved everyone and was going to miss being here, but he knew that heaven would free him from his pain and suffering and he was ready to go meet his loving Savior.
