Tim was born on April 28, 1946 and grew up in Olathe, Kansas where he remained as a lifelong resident.
He was in the Boy Scouts, mowed an uncountable number of lawns throughout Olathe, and traveled all around the North American map with his parents and younger brother.
On February 9th, 1963, Tim purchased his first vehicle, his 1941 Chevy pick-up truck, that he still owned at the time of his death. It is an icon of Olathe to many, as he proudly drove it in the Old Settlers Parade, to OHS reunions, and around town just for fun. The truck, displaying the antique license plate MISSY will continue its legacy by the hands of his oldest daughter, Missy.
Tim graduated from OHS in 1964. He was drafted into the Army in 1965 and served through 1967 with honorable discharge.
He retired from Delco Battery after over 30 years of employment. He was self-employed through his personal business Tim’s Refrigeration & Air Conditioning that kept many of Olathe’s hometown families and businesses up and running.
There were not many things he could not fix, but he really enjoyed tinkering with small engines; there wasn’t a lawnmower he couldn’t start. He loved gardening from growing the biggest tomatoes to the most beautiful hollyhocks, lilies, and cardinal climbers. He even grew hybrid roses for Burpee’s catalog many years ago. Tim also collected antique fans, clocks, and Christmas lights. Oh how he loved Christmas decorating. He always found something new to add to his collection or he would share with his daughters and friends so they too could have a unique display for the holiday.
And as most know, Tim was an avid animal lover and dedicated much of his later years supporting local animal shelters with his handyman services to make improvements for the animals and the staff.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur A. Ayres and his mother, Ruth C. Ayres.
Timothy is survived by his daughter, Melissa Garmon (Zach) and daughter, Amelia Ayres; grandchildren, Tyler Whiteford, Mitchell Norris, and Caden Norris; brother, Christopher Ayres; and many of his beloved feline friends. All have been safely rehomed in his absence.
