Theda C. (McConnaughy) Compton, 96, of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 31, 2021. Theda was born on September 3, 1925 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Louis Christian and Helen Adelaide Thedinger. Theda was the youngest of three children.
Theda graduated from Lafayette High School, St. Joseph, Missouri and was active in many activities including her high school choir. Theda loved to sing and dance which carried into her adult life, joining church choirs and participating in parish programs.
Theda worked as a mechanic at Rosecrans Army Air Force Base from July 10th to December 20th, 1943. She met her future husband, James Clinton McConnaughy there and married on February 10th, 1945. Theda and Jim had nine children, whom they loved dearly and provided a wonderful foundation for their lives. Jim passed away in May 1980, after 35 years of marriage.
Theda joined Johnson County Unos and there she met John L. Compton. Theda and John married on May 26th, 1984 and enjoyed 37.5 years of marriage. Theda and John blended their families and welcomed many grandchildren and great-grandchildren into their lives. Theda also had many nieces and nephews that she loved.
Theda was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Eileen Beauford; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marcy Thedinger; her son-in-law, Larry Bunker; and her son, Daniel C. McConnaughy.
Theda is survived by her husband, John L. Compton; her children, Patricia J. Bunker; Michael W. McConnaughy, Donald R. (Lynn) McConnaughy, Peggy E. McConnaughy, Jo Ann (Bill) Fluderer, James L. (Jodee) McConnaughy, John M. (Lisa) McConnaughy, Bonnie McConnaughy, Mary H. (Brad) Van Reitte, and step-daughter, Julie (Kevin) Tushaus.
Visitation will be 9:30 am-10:10 am on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Rosary Service at 10:10 am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am on Monday, January, 10th at the Church. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fiat Campaign, 7023 W. 71st Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66204.
