Leigh was full of southern charm, wit, and humor. A true southern belle, she never lost her accent even after living in Kansas for more than 50 years. She was born in Mt. Olive, Mississippi on September 5, 1927. She graduated from Petal, MS high school and graduated from Mississippi College for Women in 1951 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Art Education. At the age of 19, after teaching canoeing and swimming at a summer camp in MS, she met her southern gentleman-husband, Burl Evans. After teaching elementary school in Aberdeen, MS and starting their family, they moved to Overland Park, KS, where they spent the majority of their lives together. She was a talented artist who most enjoyed oil painting. She beautifully landscaped and decorated her own home. She also became a realtor later in life. Leigh had a profound gift of hospitality and opened her home and her heart to her neighbors and church. She loved baking and giving to others. She was known for serving others generously, hosting in her home, and baking pies for others. She loved her family fiercely and was loyal and true to friends. She was an artist who saw what was special in each person. She loved with her whole heart and always put the comfort of others ahead of herself. She greeted everyone with a contagious smile and made people feel welcome.
Leigh will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Minor and Norma Bott; and her beloved husband, Burl Evans. She is survived by her brother, Minor Bott, Jr (Johnny); children, Gordon (Debra), Melinda and John (Janet); grandchildren, Jamie, Brian, Christen, Nicole, Scott, Kara, Ashlyn, Brooke, and Erich; great-grandchildren, Clare, Allison, Daniel, Hunter, Ashton, Trenton, Preston, Daniel, Noah and Tristan.
