Mary Catherine Lohman, 67, of Shawnee, KS died peacefully on December 25th, 2017 at The Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Albany, NY on October 20, 1950. She was the daughter of Lt. Col. John Albert Elsweiler and Margaret Mary Elsweiler. She graduated from Immaculata High School in Leavenworth, and went on to graduate from Washburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She worked her entire career for the State of Missouri for the Division of Family Services as a Social Worker and Supervisor until retirement in 2005.
She lived a full life of travelling to the Carribean, Spain, Prague and Ireland, and to beautiful Colorado. She accompanied her family as a child to Japan during her father’s Army career. She fell in love with Kansas Jayhawks basketball, became a Royal’s fan again, and was an avid Chief’s fan with love for Derrick Thomas. She loved watching her grandchildren in their many activities, and spending time with them as much as possible.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Margaret Elsweiler.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Jones (Jeff) of Lawrence, KS; her son, Ryan Lohman of Shawnee, KS; her sister, Sharon Staab (David) of Shawnee, KS; and her brother, John “Rusty” Elsweiler (Anne) of Logan, UT; her beloved grandchildren, Abby, Parker, Brayden and Charlie.
Visitation will be Friday, January 5th, 2018 at 10 am with Mass to follow at 11 am at Holy Name Catholic Church, 1001 Southwest Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66103.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital or The Kansas City Hospice House at 12000 Wornall Road, KCMO, 64145.
