Donna Bowers, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by her family.
Donna was born on June 29, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, where she proudly graduated from Raytown High School. She devoted her life to raising her three children, Sherri, Doug, and Greg, as a dedicated stay-at-home mom. She later embarked on a twenty-year career at Owens-Illinois, Inc.
In her youth, Donna’s family was involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was crowned Jobs Daughter Queen in 1954. A woman of many passions, Donna found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests. She was an enthusiastic player of competitive bridge and had a deep love for music, painting, quilting, and rug-hooking. Donna found solace in the outdoors, where she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and spending time with her beloved pets Sadie, Betsy, Ben, and Bojangles.
In the past six years, Donna resided at JK Assisted Living, where she found joy in art, bingo and cherished friendships, especially with her dear friend, Shirley. Together, they were affectionately recognized as the mischief-makers of the most delightful kind. Donna felt blessed to live there and express gratitude for the caring staff. We envision Donna and Shirley sharing laughter over decaf coffee, continuing their mischievous escapades in the most joyful manner possible.
Despite facing the challenges of multiple sclerosis for much of her adult life, Donna approached each day with courage and determination, inspiring all who knew her.
Donna is survived by her children, Sherri Comfort (Jac), Doug Bowers, and Greg Bowers (Roxanne); her brother, Bob Gregory; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Bowers; and her parents, Donald and Geraldine Gregory.
A visitation will be held on March 2, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a service at the McGilley and Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel located at 8024 Santa Fe Dr, Overland Park, KS 66204.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the KC Pet Project in memory of Donna, reflecting her deep love for animals.
Donna will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will forever be cherished in our hearts.
