Charles H. Shonfelt of Overland Park, Kansas passed away at the age of 99 on October 22, 2022 surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held Friday October 28, 2022 at 10:00 am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas 66206. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Lenexa, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can made to Leukemia Society.
Charlie was born on November 5, 1922 in Valley Falls, Kansas and was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up during the Great Depression and valued hard work and a can-do attitude. He joined the Navy at age 18 and served in North Africa and Italy for the duration of World War II. He had a passion for fishing, playing golf, and bridge and had an uncanny ability to make friends during all stages of his life.
After the Navy, Charlie had a 40 year career working in sales at American Standard until he retired.
Charlie is preceded in death by Betty Ann, his beloved wife of 56 years, his parents Charles and Grace Shonfelt, his sister Ima Cammack, brother Don Shonfelt, and son-in-law Joe Olk.
He leaves behind five children, daughters Susan Goldman, Gail Peters (Mark), Kathy Olk, Pam Koontz (Mike), and son John Shonfelt (Cassie). Also, ten grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Daniel Goldman (Katie), Joey Olk (Kelsey), Charlie Peters (Beth), Sarah Peters, Meredith Olk, Matthew Koontz, Melissa Koontz, Amber Koontz, Samantha Shonfelt and Nicole Shonfelt, great grandson Charles Jackson Peters and great granddaughter Natalie Elizabeth Peters.
