It is with profound sadness that the family of Samia Abou Najm (née Majaess) announce her peaceful passing on July 3, 2022 in Ottawa at the age of 66 years. Samia is predeceased by her parents Mikhael and Nabiha Majaess (née Matta). Samia will be dearly missed by her husband of 46 years, Antoine Abou Najm; children, Nabila (Pierre Bou Ghantous) and Lisa (Charbel Saade); and grandchildren Mia, Lina, Leia and Anthony. She will be remembered by her siblings Nakhle Kheirallah (late Halim), Salwa Majaess, Marie Khairallah (late George), Noha Jabbour (Kamal), Khalil Majaess (Gisele), Joseph Majaess, Habib Majaess (Salwa), Uncle Fred and all her nieces and nephews. Samia was born in Bhamdoun, Lebanon in 1956 where she grew up as the youngest of eight siblings. Soon after getting married to the love of her life and starting her family she moved to Chester, Nova Scotia where she spent several years before settling in Ottawa.
Samia will be remembered as a genuinely warm, beautiful and kind-hearted soul with an infectious joy for life and smile. She loved deeply, selflessly, and unconditionally. She was a devoted wife, mother, godmother, sister, aunt, and friend but the role she most cherished was as Teta to her four precious and beautiful grandchildren. Time spent with them was her absolute favorite. She had a passion for hosting family and friends, and warmly welcomed everyone she met with open arms leaving an everlasting mark in the hearts of all those she befriended.
The family will receive relatives and friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home,1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, 2975 Riverside Drive on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 10:00 AM . Interment to follow at Hope Cemetery, 4660 Bank Street. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation the CHEO Foundation or St. Elias Cathedral in Samia`s name.
