We are heartbroken to announce that Ronald (Ron) Vincent O’Toole died peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Ronald was the youngest son of the late Lawrence O’Toole and the late Ann O’Toole (Campbell) of Louisbourg , Nova Scotia. Ron is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Anne Maureen (nee Dwyer), his children Tracey Martell O’Brien (Sean), Lawrence Michael O’Toole, Liam Terence O’Toole (Vanessa), very special extended family Joseph Martell and the late Catherine (Kaye) Martell in Charlottetown PEI; his grandchildren Edy Rothman, Rhys O’Brien and Bridget O’Brien , and his two brothers Patrick O’Toole (Peggy), Markham, Ontario and William O’Toole (Carolyn), Calgary Alberta.
Ron grew up in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia and moved to Toronto with Anne in the early ‘70’s where he was a teacher, then a vice-principal at various schools with the Metropolitan Toronto Catholic School Board. Ron and Anne moved to Ottawa in 1999. He was then Principal at St Mark High School in Manotick until his retirement in 2006.
Ron lived his life to the fullest. He thoroughly enjoyed time with his family and friends. He loved sharing activities and special events with them whenever he could. Ron knew how to have a good time and will be lovingly remembered by all his family and his many friends.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman participating in many summer and winter activities. He loved white-water canoeing, camping and fly fishing. Ron and Anne went on many wilderness adventures with great friends. He was an avid scuba diver logging over 1100 recreational dives. During one of his last dives, just a year ago, he experienced the thrill of swimming with wild dolphins in the Red Sea. Ron and Anne travelled extensively enjoying new places and experiences. Roatan was a favourite spot for yearly dive excursions. As he did in most situations, Ron made many good friends among the divers he met. As well, Venice, Florida held a special place in his heart with many good friends and neighbours.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the marvellous doctors, nurses and all staff on the Ottawa General Hospital especially those in the ER and on the 6th Floor. Their care and kindness through his last weeks were exceptional. He appreciated each and every person who supported him along the way.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a celebration of Ron`s life at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.. Remembrances of Ron will be shared at 2:00 P.M.. Please feel free to come by at any time through this time period to remember Ron through pictures taken through the years and his favourite music.
In memory of Ron, donations can be made to the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Program to help many others struggling with this terrible disease.
