Father Martineau was a visitor to our classroom while I was in grade school at our Lady of Fatima School in Ottawa.  He was always a great joy to see as you could tell he loved life so much and the children so much.  Lots of love from the Shaughnessy family.

Found out yesterday, March 3rd. that Monsignor Robert Martineau had passed away on November 27,2012. We had the honour of meeting with Fr. Bob when we visited with our cousin, Marguerite Gregoire, in Ottawa while visiting with our daughter and family. He was a kind and gentle person and we enjoyed our conversations with him. Sincere condolences to the Martineau Families.

My husband and I were lucky enough to be married by Monsignor Martineau almost 11 years ago at St. Pat's and we still fondly remember him telling us in the marriage preparation course; "Should you have a son, Robert or Bobby are nice names and should you have a daughter Roberta is a nice name." Heaven is a happier place now with Bob sharing his love and laughter.

Father Martineau was in many ways more than just a priest. He was my mother's employer (his housekeeper) for many years, he was an interim father figure for our family (as we grew up without our Dad) our spiritual guide, and part-time comedian. I fondly remember when he served Sunday mass in shorts because of the heat (but of course, you couldn't see them!) We can't help but remember your teachings, and pray that we'll see you again in the Kingdom of Heaven. Rest in Peace Father Martineau.

We are so sorry to learn of Fr. Martineau's passing.  I remember him from Our Lady of Fatima parish when I was a little girl and, more recently at St. Pat's.  He never changed - always warm, inviting, and caring and, of course, a great sense of humour! He will be greatly missed. Our heartfelt condolences to his family.

It was with great sadness that we read of the passing of Monsignor Martineau.  We go back many years as Monsignor married us 45 years ago. He was very close to our family as Margaret & Ethel Palmer were long time housekeepers at Our Lady of Fatima with Monsignor Smith and Monsignor Martineau was there at that time. I as a young girl spent many summer week-ends helping them. Since then, he has been part of our family celebrating many funerals. He was also the Parish Priest at our church, St. Ignatius. Monsignor Martineau -"Father Martineau" to our family, was a wonderful person and a great Priest. Our family truly appreciated his wisdom and always looked forward to his brief but to-the-point sermons. He was everything a Priest should be, caring, compassionate, hard working and a great person all around.

What a wonderful priest, mentor, listener, man.  My mom worked for Father Martineau for many years as his house-keeper and he was very much part of our family, he will be missed greatly.  May his family find comfort at this time. He will be greatly missed.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of Monsignor Martineau. He was a friend of my parents and so kind and helpful to our family in the last years of both their lives. He was loved by many and will be missed.

He was my priest as a child at Our Lady of Fatima and he was my priest as an adult at St. Pat's.  He was always part of my life and I was the better for it. He will continue to be part of my life.  I miss him already.

I was very sad to hear the news. I have been providing foot care services to both Monsignor Martineau and Peggy Gregoire for the last few years and always looked forward to visiting.It was to my amazement when we met for the first time, immediately recalling he was the parish priest whom had confirmed me and how well he knew my mother. It feels like I have lost a friend, big brother, and spiritual mentor all at the same time.
I still remember Father Bob cracking jokes as we marched into First Friday Mass from Our Lady of Fatima School to the Church across the parking lot. Today, 50 yrs later - I'm sure he's cracking jokes as he marches his way into heaven.
I am very proud to have known such a nice man!

I was saddened to hear of Msgr Bob's death today. He was a wonderful priest and  caring pastoral person and he helped so many families during their time of  bereavement. We have such happy memories of Monsignor Martineau -- the "quintessential" parish priest, much in the mold of Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney.  He helped our family over and over again, for which we will always be very grateful.  

His sense of humour was renowned, as was his love of life.  His passing leaves a great hole in the diocese.

It is so sad to see Fr Martneau leave us although I know he will be a blessing to the souls above. The Harris family was part of his Our Lady of Fatima family; Fr Martineau performed baptisms, weddings, funerals, first communions & confirmations - for so many.He had the Martineau family trait of likeable personality - although he was the quiet reserved one ! Not like Big Bud's ! When my father died , it was only 4 months after our mother had passed. So we opted for a much different, smaller format at St. Patrick's. We were concerned about that , but Fr Martineau said this was the right choice to do. He explained how his parents had also died shortly after each other ; and that the second wake etc so soon after was very difficult. Fr Martineau - we will always have fond memories of you.
