On Sunday, June 27, surrounded by her family, our cherished mother, mother-in-law and grandmother peacefully passed away. Beloved wife of the late Rowan Mahoney, loving mother to Frank (Wanda), Dan (Lorraine) and Jane (Andy), and treasured grandmother to Hanna (Jason) and Abby (Jamie). Mom was born in Mt. St. Patrick, the daughter of Margaret McDonald and John Maloney. She was predeceased by siblings Jean, Mike (Muriel), Harold (Jean), Jimmy (Elaine), Teresa (Ed), Sister Helen and Donald (Patricia). She is survived by her brother Frank (Pat) and many nieces and nephews who all loved Aunt Mary.
Mom’s faith was the foundation of her life and was a source of strength and great comfort. She was a lover of nature, particularly birds, and she loved hearing about our gardens and bird sightings.
Mom was a kind and gentle soul who was loved by everyone who met her. She always saw the goodness in others and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and her greatest joy, and main focus, was always her family. Her precious granddaughters, Hanna and Abby, brought her so much joy and she played an active role in their lives from the moment they were born. She celebrated each and every milestone and accomplishment of their lives with love and pride.
Mom spent her life caring for others and when it came time in her life that she needed care, she was blessed to receive that care at St. Patrick’s Home. There are no words to express our gratitude to the staff at St. Pat’s who cared for Mom with kindness and gentleness, sharing stories of their lives and treating Mom as if she were a part of their family. This incredible team will always hold a special place in our hearts. We ask that those wishing to do so direct donations to the St. Patrick’s Home Foundation in memory of Mom.
Due to COVID-19, and in keeping with our family’s wishes to keep everyone safe, a private funeral and burial will be held at Holy Cross Church in Fieldville, Quebec.
