Ah.....the memories....too many to mention.  Mrs. "C" was my mentor.  She nudged me "up the ladder" and encouraged me to try new things.  I will always be grateful for that.  She had both a great sense of humour and a stern eye on what was happening in "her store."  She made a big difference in my life and I will always remember her.  One evening, when my husband was out of town my daughter picked me up from work.  When we got to the front door, we quickly noticed it was unlocked.  We stepped in to see things out of place.  The voices from upstairs scared us...but I ran upstairs anyway to witness two men escaping from the bedroom window over our garage.  My daughter was quickly in touch with the police and the investigation began.  When I got a minute, I called Mrs. Cronin to tell her I would not be in the next day.  The basement window, where they entered, was smashed and I did not want to leave the house unsecured.  She was, of course, very obliging.  In a half hour, two co-workers and their husbands were knocking at the door.  Mrs. "C" had called them.  They helped clean up the bedrooms where drawers had been dumped out and helped calm me. Before they left for the night, there was even a piece of plywood nailed over the basement window.  When I got back to work and got to talk with Mrs. Cronin, I, of course, thanked her.  I expressed my surprise at my co-workers arriving at my door.  She told me that we likely spent more time with each other in a day than we did with our families.  She also told me that our Zeller's family knew each other better than many family members.  I never forgot that. She was the head of that family.  She looked out for us.  She really cared.  I want her own family to know how much she was loved.  

My favourite memory of Mrs. Cronin

Recently my daughter sent me a picture of my grandson with the Cabbage Patch Doll Santa gave her when they were so popular.  If a child had a Cabbage Patch Doll, they were one of the lucky ones.  I bought one for my daughter.  Back then, every year, there was a Christmas tree in the concourse of the Heron Gate Mall.  The tree had tags on it with boy or girl printed on them and an age.  You could choose one and buy an appropriate gift, attach the tag to it and put it under the tree.  My daughter gave up her cabbage doll to put under the tree.  I told Mrs. "C" the story and that I wanted to replace it for Santa to bring to her.  They were now hard to get, but we got some in the store just before Christmas.  Mrs. "C" grabbed a blonde haired doll with a soother for me to purchase for my daughter.  I also remember her taking me to her apartment for lunch.  I felt privileged.  I will always love her for her thoughtfulness.  When I see my daughter I will relay to her the story of her Cabbage Patch Doll.  Mrs. "C" will live on.

Dear Jane and Mary I'm very sorry for your loss.  I have many good childhood memories of your mom.  One very special memory was when she brought me a white plastic truck that the back doors opened to the hospital when she came to visit me.  It was like the one I had played with at your house when she took care of me one day and she knew how much I loved it.  She was a great godmother!

Mrs. Cronin hired me as a Cashier at Zellers in the 90's . I remember her as a go getter, warm, kind woman with a wonderful smile and great laugh. Always had a minute if you needed to talk and lended me a shoulder to cry on during a hard personal time. I will never forget what a great lady Mrs. Cronin was.
