Surrounded by family, Linda Joanne Hagglund passed away at home on January 29, 2024 in her seventy-fifth year, after a brave battle with cancer. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Daughter of Robert and Editha Laughton, Linda grew up in the Glebe with her older brothers Barrie (Carol) and Bob (Judy). She attended Laurentian High School and earned a degree in English from Carleton University. She married “the boy next door”, Rodney Hagglund, and they enjoyed 52 wonderful years of marriage. Linda was a family person through and through. She was a loving mother to Andrea (Marc Laliberté) and Wendy (Victor Tarry) and devoted Nana to Hailey, Sydney, Shelby and Danielle.
Whether it was hosting family dinners or the annual family reunion, enjoying time at the cottage on Bass Lake, cheering on her grandkids in their various activities or taking family trips to Connecticut, Linda was the supportive, kind, good-humoured centre of family life. She also contributed greatly to her wider community as a Girl Guide leader, classroom volunteer, president of her Community Association at Bass Lake and in numerous capacities at her church, particularly the Harmony Club. She was a natural with children, and touched the lives of many from special education students to Cherub Choir singers to Sunday School kids.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and brothers. Her memory will be cherished by many dear friends, nieces, nephews and cousins, including her sisters-in-law Melanie Evans, Carol Laughton and Judy Laughton. Linda’s Christian faith shone through in her kindness and welcome to others and she will be deeply missed in the community of Rideau Park United Church. The family wishes to express its gratitude for the compassionate care offered to Linda by the staff of the Queensway-Carleton and General campuses of the Ottawa Hospital, the many visiting staff provided through Ottawa Home Care, and the Ottawa South Palliative Group.
