An impish grin,  a resonant voice, and understated humour coupled with compassion for and interest in others - colleagues, friends, patients -  made Kevin uniquely memorable. We will miss, yet also remember him at future class reunions, events at which he always added colour.

I had the privilege of volunteering with Kevin for the Pastoral care team  at St John the Apostle. We worked together weekly at Redwoods retirement living community. He always had an interesting story to share with the residents. He was so full of knowledge.  I could listen to him for hours if time allowed. His voice was such a gift to everyone who was blessed to hear it in song.  I will miss him. Deepest sympathies to all who loved him.

Wendy and I had a wonderful time with Kevin in October at the Meds '74 reunion and I was again touched by Kevin's sense of humor and broad interests. We are saddened by his loss and know he will be deeply missed by his family and all those he has touched. 

May his Spirit support us all.

He was always a welcoming friendly face at Meds 74 reunions, most recently this past October, and a delight to chat with about anything and everything. I only knew Kevin as of 2007,  when I joined the TOH Anesthesia  department  as an anesthesia assistant.
I could only say that I was very fortunate to have met Kevin as a colleague , but most importantly as a friend.
Kevin always had a story to share or was ready to hear what you had to say.
I could say that with the passing of Kevin, now there is another black hole in our world.

I would also like to express my deep sadness and shock on hearing of the sudden death of Kevin and extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to all the Nolan family. I had just spoken to Kevin  on the phone when he was convalescing in Westport. He told me he’d be back in Ottawa at Christmas and that he was doing okay.
 I had the privilege of volunteering with Kevin on both the Pastoral Care  and Bereavement teams in the past few years at St. John The Apostle Parish.
    Kevin, your  compassion, love of people, your non-judgmental attitude, your very deep Faith, all your knowledge, your experience ,your  singing voice, story telling, sense of humor, keenness and energy to help, were all such beautiful and outstanding attributes that you were able to offer. Thank you very much for all of it. You truly made a difference .I,myself, and our teams will miss you  very much.

Kevin was a classmate (Queen's, Meds '74) of my wife, Mary Gordon, and I.  We are greatly saddened by the news of his death and extend our deepest sympathies to all his family.  We recall his gentle strength, so evident throughout our training, and the thoughtful and considerate care he extended to his patients...and to his classmates and colleagues.  It was a special joy to see him at our reunion and to share memories and laughter -- his warm smile was ever-present at every meeting.   His kindness and dedication serve as an example to us all and were so evident to those who worked or trained with him.   He will not be forgotten. 

I remember meeting Kevin at the Riverside Hospital.  His easy going nature and sense of humour made him a favourite anesthesiologist of mine. For some reason every time he saw me, he developed a southern accent, lol. Rest easy Kevin.

Kevin was my teacher and a colleague. He created a foundation of modern neuroanesthesiology at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Having trained with the best experts in the USA he introduced the intraoperative neuromonitoring program in our hospital, which made complex spine surgery a much safer procedure. He was also one of the pioneers of awake craniotomy for brain tumor surgery in Ottawa.  Excellent clinician and scholar, he always had time to explain the most complex problems in anesthesia to young colleagues in training. He was a Renaissance man – loved to talk about history, politics, culture and music. Many times he surprised with his deep knowledge and understanding of the world and its different cultures.
They say “you live as long as you are remembered”. Kevin will be remembered for a long time by so many of us.


We were so sorry to hear about Kevin's passing. He was a classmate of mine (Meds '74). I just had a wonderful catch up at our 45th reunion with Kevin this past October. His dry sense of humour and laugh never changed over the past 50 years that I knew Kevin. Our condolences to his family.

Dr Nolan took the time to teach me when I was a brand new nurse in the operating room. He was funny and kind, and I’ll remember him fondly. My sympathies to all his family and friends. He was one of the good ones. 

I remember Kevin from my first day working at the Civic - offering coffee and support.  Typical.  Over the years I grew to appreciate his sense of humor and his unending interest in humanity.

I have very fond memories of my cousin. We shared a house on Centre Street in Kingston during his time at Queens University.
He was always happy and telling jokes (that he would laugh at before anyone else).

I met Dr. Kevin Nolan because the Malignant Hyperthermia (MH) Diagnostic Center that he directed in Ottawa participated in the North American MH Registry (NAMHR). The contributions of this center are a very important part of the NAMHR. I have great respect for the work he did to keep this center functioning so well for so many years.

With deep sadness, we received the news of Kevin's passing. Kevin was a great teacher to me as a newcomer to the department of Anesthesia at the Civic Hospital. He was very patient, had a fantastic sense of humor and we had many interesting conversations. 

Jean and I had the fortune to have him as a guest in our summer parties where he was even dressing up for the proposed theme! Just on December 12th, we exchanged emails as he was interested in hosting a music day.

Very saddened to hear of Kevin's passing and condolences to his family and friends.

I always enjoyed working with Kevin while I was a resident and he'll be fondly remembered for his compassion, professionalism and especially his sense of humour.

It is with sincere deep sadness that I learned this morning about the untimely passing away of Dr. Kevin Nolan.  Kevin was a wonderful neighbor: he was kind, gracious, wise and had a great curiosity to learn about other people's culture and customs. He always knew when the Jewish holidays were approaching, and he always knew the appropriate greetings for the occasion. I loved being engaged with him in conversations that were always thoughtful and stimulating and yes, often with the bonus of humour.
I shall miss Kevin very much.

He had such a kind heart and as so may others have noted, an incredible wit and sense of humour. Kevin's time with the Nepean Songsters was far too short but he made a long-lasting impression on me.  His wit was evident from his first day.   He accepted the role of the Purple People Eater with enthusiasm and devoted much thought to the perfect costume.   I am very happy he was able to come to our last practice/ coffee party before our  Christmas break.  I will miss him.

Kevin was one of the first neighbours I met when I bought my house. We stood in the rain for an hour as he regaled me with stories about the neighbours and the neighbourhood. He loved to visit with my brother as he worked in the garden, and often had useful information to share. He was a kind, generous neighbour, and I will miss  his friendly face.
