Peacefully, at the age of 80, on January 15, 2016, with her son by her side at the Perley-Rideau Long Term Care Centre, following a lengthy and courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s and recent detection of advanced cancer. Predeceased by her beloved husband Pierre, brother John (Sandra), and parents Gerald and Helen, she leaves to grieve, her sister Judy (Don), brother James (Sandra), son Ted, and sister-in-law Mireille (Phil). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Jonathan and Justin, a large extended family around the world including cousins, nieces and nephews, and her many friends in Ottawa and from the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregations. Daughter of a mining engineer and originally from Flin Flon, Manitoba, Geraldine lived in several parts of the world before coming to Ottawa where she met Pierre through playing bridge, and they married in Canada’s Centennial in 1967. Tirelessly energetic, she found strong faith with the Jehovah’s Witnesses and dedicated herself to that service. Geraldine loved figure skating, skiing, dogs, travel, and was always on the go and hard at work on something. Special thanks to the amazing staff at the Perley Gatineau 1 South unit for their wonderful care, to the staff at the Oak Park retirement home assisted living floor, to Bilane from Homewatch CareGivers who provided her with tremendous companionship and assistance over the last two years, and to Angelina her dedicated friend and housekeeper of many years. There will be no service. In memory of Geraldine, donations to the Perley-Rideau would be greatly appreciated at www.canadahelps.org/dn/16841. Condolences may be posted to http://www.mcevoy-shields.com or sent directly to McEvoy-Shields, 1411 Hunt Club Road.
