It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Christian Marcus Susil Gunaratna, on October 12th, 2024 at the age of 76 in Ottawa, ON Canada.
Born in Sri Lanka, he was known for his unwavering love for his family and his commitment to his community specially to Christian Family Movement of Sri Lanka. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Shirani, a loving father to his children, Nishadi and Kalpa, caring brother to his siblings. He cherished his role as a grandfather to his grandchildren, Liam, Nayeli, Katelyn, and Kaenen.
Christian was the beloved brother of Priyantha, Lal, Jayantha, Anne, and Rose Gunaratna. He also leaves behind a loving extended family, including his son-in-law Lakshan and daughter-in-law Ronali. He held a special place in the hearts of his sisters-in-law Neela, Dulani, Nimali, Senika, Priyani, Chamindra, and Shanthini, as well as his brothers-in-law Gamini, Anil, Palitha, Kithsiri, Clifford and Dudley.
He will also be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues of Christian Family Movement and Bar Association of Kalutara back in Sri Lanka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Gunaratna and Regina Silva.
He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, loved him dearly, but his spirit will live on in the memories and stories shared by his family and friends. He was a cherished individual known for his kind, loving, caring, and generous personality.
The family would like to thank the medical team at the Queensway Carleton hospital for their compassionate care.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, October 19th from 10AM to 11AM for visitation at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home located at 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa. A funeral service will follow at 11:30AM at Good Shepherd Church on Innes Road, then we will proceed to Dales Cemetery for burial.
