It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Audrey Henderson, on February 20, 2024, at the age of 84 years.
Audrey Henderson was born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies on July 15, 1939. She was the first child of four born to the late Cleveland and Beryl Henderson. She was educated at the Convent of Mercy Academy High School and went on to Alpha Commercial College in Kingston.
Audrey later worked with the Department of Foreign Affairs in Jamaica for a number of years and was then posted to Canada in 1965 to work with the Jamaican High Commission in Ottawa. From there she went on to work with the Canadian Federal Government and after a successful career retired from the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources.
After retirement, she kept busy working part-time in various positions in the health field.
Audrey was a person who enjoyed life and was always on the go. For many years she was a member of the Rod Scott creative dance group in Ottawa as well as participated in theatre at Carleton University.
Audrey is pre-deceased by her parents and brothers Cleveland Jr. and Carl Henderson and survived by her sister Lorna Townsend (Edwin) and other family members Maureen Durrant (Elvis); Dwayne Peart (Emily); Stacey [Betty] Ileleji (Christopher); Warren Townsend (Sara); Gary Henderson; Melissa Henderson; Gina Henderson (Juan); Brittany Henderson, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
She will be greatly missed by her immediate family, extended family and all those whose lives she touched over the years.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, on Friday, March 8, 2024 after 10 a.m. Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Audrey's service may also be viewed live or for replay at https://fweb.tv/119298
Interment Hope Cemetery, 4660 Bank Street, Ottawa following the Service. After burial, all are invited to a reception with the family at The Ottawa Masonic Centre, 2140 Walkley Rd, Ottawa, ON.
