Russel Ira Smith

Russel Ira Smith, 96, of rural Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born December 16, 1924 in Fort Wayne, son of the late Louis Smith and Sylvia (Johnson) Graft. Russel worked as a mechanic for Korte Brothers, Inc and was a member of Hope United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 75 years, Dorothy (Wilson) Smith; children, Melvin Smith of Fort Wayne, Roger Smith of Wolcottville, Douglas (Petra) Smith of Fort Wayne, and Darlene Sloderbeck of New Haven; brothers, Calvin Smith and Donald Smith; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Amenda "Ruth" Smith; step father, Paul Graft; and two great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 1, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill Street, Ossian, Indiana 46777 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be on held Sunday, October 31, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Poe Williamsport Cemetery.
