Ronald Eugene Kunze, 80, passed away October 7, 2024. Born in Michigan, and growing up in Oahu, he eventually took root in Fort Wayne IN. After meeting his beautiful wife, Jenny, and settling down, he spent much of his career working for Magnavox as an electronics technician.
A Vietnam veteran, he served his county as a naval enlisted man aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Bonhomme Richard and the destroyer, USS Furse. He received a commendation for his exemplary service in Cuba.
He was a gentle soul who never lost his spark of child-like joy over anything from gifts, delicious food or good conversation. He did not go anywhere without a sci-fi book and his technical training carried over into computers and games as a favorite hobby. He loved cats; there was always at least one in the home at all times. His love of Hawaii was a favorite topic. If you asked, he would regale you with a tale of hunting octopi while spearfishing (the octopus won) or stealing fresh lychee off his neighbor’s tree to eat. He insisted all his children know how to use chopsticks and go to college—the chopstick knowledge becoming the more useful tool later in life. He loved jokes, was passionate about politics and never missed an episode of Star Trek or Babylon 5. His curiosity for learning and exploring, as well as a love of a good meal with family carried over to all four of his children--as well as a strong obsession for a “good cup of coffee”.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 49 years, Jennifer Kunze; his brother, Gerald Kunze; his four children, Sara McNeely (Bryan), Micah Kunze (Kimberley), Sam Kunze, and Elizabeth “Annie” Kunze; as well as many family and friends.
Memorial service to be held at a later date and time.
