Diane Mavis Elizabeth Douglas Baker

It is with great sadness and with the heaviest hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Diane Baker on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017. Loving wife and soulmate of John Baker for 43 years. Beloved mother of TJ Baker, John Baker Jr. (Sarah) and Crystal Nagy (Stephen). Devoted grandmother of Caelin Baker; Brock and Shyanne Baker; Stephen and Kennedy Nagy. Lovingly remembered by her brothers Kirk, Kevin, Jack, Jim and predeceased by brothers David and Howard. Sadly, missed by nieces and nephews and many friends. Diane was the office manager, voice and face of Bakers Auto (Rotax Aerocraft Engine Division). She was the Secretary/Treasurer and heart of The Marksmen Club and was President of Durham Condominium 97. Family was everything to Diane – she loved her family. Diane and John met in the fall of 1967, going to a house record party for their first date. They were inseparable from that day on. They were married in June of 1973 and started their family the following year. She was the heart of every family event. She would be at one and be planning the next. She has loved racing since John was street racing at 16. She has been to countless racetracks since 1978, when John took to circle track Stock Car racing. The family travelled all over Ontario and into the USA racing over the years. In 1993, her love for racing expanded, as she became known “Mama Baker” when her son John Jr. started his stock car career. She has been his biggest fan since his wheels hit the pavement for his first heat. No matter the track, or how long it took to get there, she would be in the stands cheering his every lap! Her grandbabies were the light of her life. She would do anything for each of them and was always planning their next adventure. She loved airplanes, after John bought one. She enjoyed going to the airport and sitting in the hanger reading her Kobo while John went for a flight. She loved being there but would never go up in the plane. She was a huge supporter of John’s flights and ran the Rotax Aerocraft Engine Division of Bakers Auto seamlessly. She loved to sew, so much so, she even had a sewing machine on her desk at the shop, and it was not unusual to walk in the office and see her working on her latest creation. She was always making clothes and fabric books for the kids. Christmas sewing was her absolute favorite. She would be whipping up Rudolph’s in the middle of summer, along with aprons and Christmas trees, getting ready for our annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. Anyone who knew her, knows her love for Elvis, he was her hunka hunka burning love! She loved Facebook and enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends and playing Bubble Witch. She also enjoyed the family debates regarding posts on Facebook. She will be forever missed, and forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers donations to the Oshawa Salvation Army would be appreciated.
