Antonio was born in Rio Frio Portugal on April 6th, 1936. He joined the army when he was 18 years old where he served for two years. In February 1960 he married Perfeita. Soon after Antonio left Portugal in pursuit of a better life. Travelling on foot through Portugal and Spain he was turned back twice before finally reaching France at the end of his third journey. A year later Perfeita and their son Mario joined him. In 1968 Canada became their new home.
Antonio (or Tony as his friends called him) worked at GM for 25 years. He is remembered for the dedication and resourcefulness he showed in all things; whether it was building a beautiful home for his family, volunteering at the Northern Portugal Cultural Centre, or tending to his home garden.
Antonio is survived by his wife Perfeita; son Mario and daughter-in-law Karen; grandchildren, Krysten, Richard and Adam; sister Rosa, brothers Benjamin and Domingos. Predeceased by his brother Francisco.
Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234) on Thursday, October 24th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel on Friday, October 25th at 10:30 AM, followed by a burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
